Q&A With Beni’s Cubano

We chatted with Cesar Velazquez, Beni’s chef, about the new concept and brining Cuban flavor to Downtown. Check it out and try something new next time you’re hanging at The Hub.

 

What unique flavors are you bringing to The Hub?

Sofrito and mojo are the backbone of many recipes here at Beni’s because the blend of fresh garlic, peppers, onions, cilantro and tomatoes help create wonderful dishes. Roasted pork and seared short ribs are always a fan favorite and the aromas bring in the crowds.  

What inspires the food you create at Beni’s?

Many of these dishes I ate growing up so to serve them to our guests has been a great joy, especially to first timers who may have never eaten this type of food before.

What menu items at Beni’s do you recommend a first-timer try?

Our biggest seller is of course the Cuban Sandwich so that is essential along with the beans, rice and sweet plantains on the side.

Why are you excited to be located in The Hub? What’s special about this new location?

I love the energy of this space and I never expected to have such a great reception from local businesses and future guests during our construction and planning. Although it gets to be super busy – a great problem to have! – we get a chance to share plans about upcoming specials and menu additions with what has been a surprising and exciting number of regulars.

Tell us something people might not know about Beni’s.

We are currently working on menu additions/specials like Tostones and Croquetas. In addition, we are rolling out a breakfast menu that will be announced soon.
